Cecily Alexa Talks New Single and Album ‘Awakening, Pt. 1’

The gifted singer-songwriter’s new single, “Clumsy” is a reminder in the power of self love

DC-based vocalist and songwriter Cecily is known for her agile soprano and honest lyrics.  Her sound, as soothing as it is rich, is musically mature and rooted in a deep appreciation for mid-century soul and jazz, 90’s R&B, and re-imagined folk music. Her music displays the influence of growing up surrounded by her parents vast record collection including everything from jazz great, Miles Davis to the Motown soul of Smokey Robinson!

Cecily has opened for award-winning jazz and soul artists Gregory Porter and Jose James, R&B stars Johnny Gill, Kenny Lattimore, and Elle Varner, folk artist Becca Stevens, and alternative soul pioneer Bilal. She has played at the legendary Blues Alley and the Apollo Music Cafe, as well as The Kennedy Center, The Hamilton, The Howard Theater, and Bethesda Blues & Jazz Supper Club. In 2017, Cecily and her band were invited by the US Embassy to perform in Colombia at the VI Annual Mompox Jazz Festival.

Her album, ‘Awakening, Pt.1‘ proves that she’s an artist who has got the goods! The 4-track EP includes the songs, “Clumsy,” “Set Myself Free,” “No Room For Fear” and “Acceptance.”  The melodic songs create a thread that explores the different stages of love.

“These [songs] are stories of choosing love over fear, and I hope that they serve as a reminder to my listeners to do the same.”

The project also includes a stunning visual EP directed by  Torell Shavone and co-stars Dale Deberry.  Cecily told her mother that after 10 years of singing as a hobby, she wanted to dedicate her life to music, and it is crystal clear that music is definitely what she was meant to do!
